About Us
History of Magothy Manor
Magothy Manor Bed & Breakfast is a historical site located on the Magothy River. Traced back to 1681, Magothy Manor was once owned by Thomas Sutton, who called the area Huckleberry Forest. In 1912, Captain Raphael S. List bought the property for his summer home. The Captain was a Bay Pilot and "just couldn't seem to spend enough time on the water." The original home inhabited by Captain List was eventually neglected in the years following his move to a home down List Avenue. The old farmhouse was torn down and replaced with the existing white-brick home between 1935 and 1940. After changing hands several times between the years of 1940 and 1996, William A. Mitchell purchased Magothy Manor and extensively remodeled the home to what it is today.
